I Am So Jacked Up Right Now For The Cubs: Ian Happ Named NL Player Of The Week

Imagine that. The single most important week on the schedule and the Cubs get a massive performance from a guy who couldn’t even crack the opening day roster. A guy everyone wrote off and more important someone who didn’t find the way into the lineup much sooner in the season. Instead, Carlos Gonzalez and Albert Almora and Daniel Descalso got those at bats. Well look who’s laughing now: Ian Happ as he polishes his NL Player of the Week trophy that he is probably repurposing as some kind of water bong. Good on him and good on Major League Baseball for finally recognizing all the hard work the Cubs put in this 2019 season.

Maybe next step in the master plan is giving him and his .898 OPS more than 140 at bats. Maybe even let him stay in his apartment for more than 20% of the natural year.

Or maybe just don’t go 2-10 down the stretch and then act surprised the bullpen sucks and Albert Almora can’t get the job done. Maybe that’s the best bet.
