Credit To The Phillies For Being Disappointing As Hell And Making The City Of Philadelphia Earn That Next Championship
Here in Philly we pride ourselves on being a blue collar, gritty, hard working city. We don’t care for the glitz and glam of a city like Los Angeles. We don’t care for the fame and fortune of a city like New York. We don’t pretend to be something that we’re not. We are Philadelphia through and through.
So the Philadelphia Phillies won’t be making a trip to the postseason for the 8th year in a row now. In a season that had so much hope and expectation going into it after signing guys like Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto. The Phillies management told the fans that they were going to be spending stupid money over the offseason and that’s exactly what they did. But what good would it have been if everything had gone according to plan this season? What good would it have been if the Phillies actually followed through with those expectations and immediately become a World Series team? Would you, as a true Philadelphian, feel good about yourself that the Phillies basically went out there and bought themselves a championship? Or would that just be the cowards way to go about it that all of these other bitch made cities would go for?
That’s just not how we do it in Philly. You need disappointment. You need frustration. You need anger. At the end of the day, you need to earn those championships. You don’t get to just buy a championship for $330 million and be happy with yourself. You’d feel dirty about that. You’d feel cheap, you’d feel like you lost any shred of integrity that you had as a Philly sports fan before the season started. So credit to the Phillies for being a massive disappointment this season and still failing to make the playoffs. That is exactly what this team needed. Suck ass this season, and now Philly fans have earned the right to truly enjoy and celebrate when this Phillies team wins a World Series. It was necessary to be absolute cheeks this year, which is why anybody who is laughing at the Phillies for not making the playoffs after spending all that money in the offseason is an idiot and a loser and a good for nothing bozo.
