I Don't Care If It Makes Me A Pussy - Yu Darvish Gives Me All The Feels

It’s judgment day here for your boy barstool carl because I suck and the Cubs are a pathetic waste of talent and resources. There’s countless reasons to be disgusted but you know what? Yu Darvish makes me so goddamn proud to cheer for him and what a better time to say I was wrong to challenge his competitive spirit last year and at the onset of this season. Granted I was completely right this entire year about how good he would be, when he would be good, why he would be good and what the Cubs were doing to get him to that level. But I was most certainly wrong about thinking he didn’t have the balls to be the guy.

If there’s one thing I’ve loved about the 2019 season, it’s watching Yu Darvish get all pissed off and uncork 98 mph with sink on the knees. His Best is so much better than the next Best we have on this squad I don’t even know how to exaggerate because I can’t. I love this dude

Darvish has been to hell and back in a Cubs uniform and of course it’s him on the mound in the 9th throwing 97 in the rain because WE NEED TO WIN THIS GAME. Nevermind that Albert Almora can’t make a play or we can’t muster any more offense or blah blah blah. There’s Yu Darvish out there fighting for the season, his reputation, his teammates, the club, everybody. There he is standing tall, trying to do his job when virtually no one else wants to.

So as we star to reconcile that Theo & Co. actually failed to assemble a playoff caliber baseball team, I ask you keep your head high on Darvish and find some silver linings. Take comfort knowing he and Caratini are officially best friends now and that he shoved tremendously. That Castellanos is probably a Cub for life if we don’t screw THAT up. Almora probably won’t have to take any more AB’s next year. There’s a whole list of things but at the top is Yu Darvish and for the last time – I was dead fucking wrong about how bad he wants it.

I was also dead wrong about how good this Cubs team is but that doesn’t feel nearly as good.

And if things couldn’t get worse, we say goodbye to Gary Pressy. 2,687 consecutive games actually beats Cal Ripken Junior.

Enjoy your Off Day. Cubs will resume play tomorrow night in Pittsburgh where they will continue to slowly kill me.
