Quincy Enunwa Is Out For The Season With A Career Threatening Neck Injury

Man oh man is this heart breaking. Neck injuries are as dangerous and as serious as it gets, and Q has now had 2 in a very short period of time. I almost feel selfish hoping that hes able to come back. We should just be rooting for Quincy’s long term health and safety, whether thats on a football field or not. In a perfect world he recovers from this and its nothing that lingers and he can go out there and be the electric, game changing talent that he is when healthy. But if theres really any serious threat of long term neck/spine issues, its not worth it. Walking away from the game you love and the money and the glory has gotta be so goddam difficult…and as a fan it would really suck from a football point of view considering how impactful of a player he can be. But if theres is any real threat to your ability to just live a normal life as a fully functioning human, you gotta do what you gotta do. I know thats the risk that every football player takes on virtually every snap, but clearly Q is susceptible to injuring his neck and if it some how raises the chances of re-injuring or paralysis or anything serious like that significantly, its just that much more scary.

My question is, what would you do? Imagine its not bad enough where you arent cleared to play. Lets say its 2020 and you have been given the green light by doctors and the team, but you’ve been warned that a third neck injury could threaten your life in a major way, would you walk away? Would you risk it? So much to give up, but so much to lose. Goddam thats a shitty spot to be in. Lets just hope its something a year of recovery can fix and he wont face that decision.
