Mario Kart Is Officially Coming To Your Phone Next Month

I’ve never been a big mobile game player. Some Word Scapes or Sudoku, sure, something to pass the time. I wish there was an app I could buy that would turn my phone into a Gameboy Color and allow me to play those types of games. The fact that retro gaming is constantly being pumped out but a simple, legal Game Boy emulator that wont crash my phone every five minutes isn’t a thing yet. But that’s a topic for a different day.

No Mario Kart will ever surpass the GOAT N64 version, but this is something I’m certainly down to try on my train to and fro the office every day. I could get some serious Karting done in that 30 minute commute. Add in the other 30 daily minutes in the can and we’re looking at an hour and a half window I can distract myself by drifting around Tokyo with Wario. I haven’t seen a price yet, because they’ve set up the classic app feature where it’s “free to download but in-game purchase options will be available.” So, your guess is as good as mine. I’m going to pay whatever it is, because I’m bad with my money and make poor decisions, so it doesn’t matter to me. You? Well, that’s a different conversation entirely.

This was originally set to launch in March and they pushed it back in order to smooth out the gameplay and iron out any last kinks, which is a refreshing move from any game developers. I don’t know why so many are content with putting out a 75% finished game while patching the remaining 25% while the game is already in the consumers hands. One of the more bizarre standard business practices in the video game world today. So that gives me extra hope that they really want this to blow and are putting as much man power and time into as possible before we can get to racing. All good with me. I’m most interested to see how smooth the steering and drifting is given the touch screen nature of an iPhone. However they’ve constructed it, I can’t imagine it’s going to be any worse than what they made for the Wii. That version was an affront to God and should never be spoken about in public again.
