Serge Ibaka's Moment With The Larry O'Brien Trophy Was Straight Out Of A Movie

Now this is pretty damn cool. I know guys having their moment with the championship trophy of their respective sport whether it’s the Lombardi, Stanley Cup, or Larry O’Brien trophy is nothing new, but I’m not sure anyone has had a moment quite like this. He pretty much nailed it in that tweet, this scene really is out of a movie. In fact Ibaka’s whole career/story fits that description. He was a legend in the Congo long before he became an NBA champion, but I imagine he’s reached an even higher level. It’s well deserved too, because make no mistake I’m not positive the Raptors win that title without how Ibaka closed out that series. After struggling through the first three games he was absolute NAILS over the final three

Game 4: 20/4 on 9-12 shooting

Game 5: 15/6 on 5-8 shooting

Game 6: 15/3 on 7-12 shooting

so you’re damn right he’s earned his moment with the trophy. It must have felt pretty crazy to go back to a restaurant you used to have to beg for leftovers to then get your grub on as an NBA champion. That almost doesn’t sound real because that really is the shit that only happens in movies. Granted I’m pretty sure that place would have treated Ibaka like a king regardless, but I love the flex of having the trophy. That takes it up a notch in the best way possible.

The best part if Ibaka is he doesn’t do this shit just to go viral or to exploit where he came from. He makes a real difference in the Congo through his foundation and honestly it’s hard to not root for the guy.
