The New Scuttlebutt Is Trent Williams Has No Desire To Play For The Redskins No Matter What

And the wheels just keep on turnin’. We have known this Trent Williams situation might get worse until it gets better. And boy is it ever. The training staff looked at his head, told him it was all good, and it turned out to be a tumor. Not great!!! And now the scuttlebutt is he won’t come back, no matter, what, even if there’s a fire.

The good news? Well, if Duke Johnson is worth a 3rd rounder, Trent Williams should be able to fetch multiple first rounders. Or an immediate starter plus a first rounder. Certainly not ever GM is as bone-headed as Bill O’Brien, but Trent is a top 5 LT in the league, and it’s not every day an All Pro LT is on the market. And it looks like he is going all in on this, not bluffing at all:

There’s also the threat of not being on the Redskins roster before Week 1, which means Williams’ 2019 salary will no longer be fully vested. “Not a concern,” according to those in the know.

I guess when you’ve made $100 million in your career $500,000 is a drop in the bucket, especially if it means you don’t have to play on a team run by Dan Snyder.

It sucks though. Like, obviously Trent would be a huge help for this team and I want him in the burgundy and gold forever. But I can’t exactly fault him for wanting to go to a team that he feels will take much better care of him, especially with all the injuries he’s played through. I cannot imagine playing under Snyder and Allen is rainbows and butterflies. The Skins had something like 20 players hit the IR last year, and it’s definitely not a coincidence.

So I think the Skins should definitely be looking at moving him. A couple firsts, or a first and a guy who can provide offensive line depth, you gotta do it. Sucks but there’s no point on keeping an asset on the shelf when you can get a clean start and compile picks/players in return. I hope they make come to a healthy resolution and Trent sticks around for at least 2 more years, but day by day it seems much less likely.
