Bob Costas Rapping Ludacris Lyrics About Bob Costas Is An Exceptional Thing To Behold

First things first, when I saw Bob Costas trending on Twitter, my heart skipped a beat because I thought Bob Costas had tragically passed away. I’ve long said that Twitter needs to include a note beside any trending person’s name that they aren’t dead (or if they are dead, note that). Because almost daily a famous person’s name trends on Twitter and I just assume they’re dead and I simply don’t need that in my life. I realize that quelling my anxiety in regards to celebrity deaths isn’t the top priority on Jack’s list of things to fix about Twitter (I’d start with Nazis and Russian bots and go from there, just one man’s opinion) but throw me a goddamn bone. For the .5 seconds between seeing Bob Costas’ name trending and clicking, I was filled to the gills with dread.

Luckily for us, and for Bob Costas, he is very much alive and well. He’s so alive in fact that he’s showing us a talent we didn’t know he had, rapping. He spit that Ludacris bar so perfectly that I could’ve closed my eyes and I would’ve thought it was Christopher Bridges himself delivering the line. Costas, even after being in and around our lives for decades, still has a few tricks up his sleeve. I’d love to know how many dinner parties Costas has told that story and rapped those lyrics.

And he’s right by the way, there’s no number of accolades or awards that can give a person the “Holy shit I’m famous” feeling like getting name dropped in a rap song. Being mentioned in a rap song really is one of the benchmarks when deciding if a person is REALLY famous or just famous. Think about it, according to Bob Costas’ wikipedia, he’s won 8 National Sportscaster of the Year awards, over 20 Sports Emmys, he’s been inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters hall of fame and has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame, not to mention he’s the #1 guy at the Olympics. Yet none of those things made him feel the way he felt when Ludacris dropped his name while rhyming about smoking blunts with Rastafarians. Incredible.
