Blackhawks Trade Johnny Haymakers To The Devils For Joel Quenneville's Nephew

So long, Johnny Haymakers

I always liked John Hayden and think he’s going to be a nice player for a long time in the NHL. I really liked the idea of him growing and developing into our version of Matt Martin. A guy who could be an effective forechecker and 4th line power forward while providing smarts, leadership and toughness. Somehow he never really seemed to grab that role and it was pretty clear that he wasn’t one of Colliton’s guys. You could sense a trade coming and I would bet that Hayden welcomes this one. Change of scenery and close to home. That’s a win for Big John, but I will miss him.

As for John Quenneville…obviously he’s Joel’s nephew so that’s kind of a weird move. Former first round pick who hasn’t been able to put it together at the NHL level yet, but he’s a pretty decent player at the AHL level. If he’s sticking around Chicago, then look for him to be a bottom 6 type guy or on a shuttle between Chicago and Rockford with guys like Anton Wedin, Johnson, Highmore, etc.
