Man Gets Sentenced To 7 Years In Jail For Pretending To Be Blind For 8 Years

(Source)–A man in his 40s stands accused of living as a blind person for eight years and fraudulently receiving government money after a neighbour apparently saw him driving a car.

The Busan Yeonje Police Station said Thursday that it had arrested the man, whose identity was not revealed, without physical detention on suspicion of violating the Act on Pensions for Persons with Disabilities.

The man is suspected of misrepresenting himself as a person with a level 1 visual impairment — the most serious level — for eight years between January 2010 and August 2018, and receiving 118milwon (RM421, 336) in government assistance allocated for people with disabilities.

Police said the suspect was diagnosed with a level 1 visual impairment at a local hospital, where he was treated for several eye diseases.

They say he was caught after one of his neighbors, believing he was blind, reported him to the Korean Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission after seeing him driving a car and even parking it with no problem.

Can you imagine how hard it must be to keep up the lie that you’re BLIND for 8 years. EIGHT. Walking around with a cane, pretending to be able to feel those little brail bumps, waiting to cross the street until your dog tells you it’s safe. Never reacting to things whizzing towards you or even glancing cleavage. It’s not like you’re faking a leg injury where all you have to do is remember how to limp the right way. This is every single thought and action in your life for EIGHT years just to get some government benefits. This Korean guy should be given an award. This is the longest run of method acting the world has ever seen. Even Daniel Day Lewis couldn’t pull this off.

When I read how he got caught…I was filled with rage. This neighbor who called the authorities is the biggest asshole on the planet. FUCK this guy. How about mind your own fucking business, man. Let this guy live his best fake blind life. It’s a victimless crime. It doesn’t impact you one bit so shut up. I mean here in America we have been letting Stevie Wonder pretend to be blind for like 50 years now. Nobody says anything because he’s a great muscian. We all love Stevie. We just let him live his life and go on with ours because that is the right thing to do.
