Woman Opens Airplane Door Because She Thought It Was The Bathroom

From CNN:

A passenger on a UK-Pakistan flight at Manchester Airport caused severe delays after opening the emergency exit door in an attempt to reach the bathroom while the plane was still on the ground.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight 702 was due to fly from Manchester, UK, to Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday but suffered a delay of seven hours, according to the airline.

Forty passengers were offloaded following the incident, during which “the exit slide deployed automatically,” PIA said in a statement.
A spokesman for the airline told CNN the passenger had opened the door thinking it was the bathroom, but all passengers were safe.

Apparently the woman was in a rush to use the toilet before the plane took off & somehow thought the rear emergency door was the bathroom…

I’ve tried putting myself in her shoes & still cannot comprehend how this happened. Do you really think it would take that much energy to open what is essentially a port-a-potty door? Looking at the basic layout of a plane, how could you not notice that door connects to nothing but the outside?? How did none of the other passengers stop her when they saw this happening when you KNOW that is 100% going to delay the shiiiiit out of your travels, too?! It’s a mystery.

I also want to know if she at least finally got to go to the bathroom after ripping that thing open & deploying the slide. “Fine, before the cops come & take you away, go pee real quick. And FYI – it’s THIS door, back here. That has a bathroom symbol on it.”

If not, I imagine her pants looked something like this:

As someone who flies a lot, this made my worrier-mind panic about if someone did this mid-flight, but not to worry – it would be impossible thanks to cabin pressure. From AskThePilot.com:

Think of an aircraft door as a drain plug, fixed in place by the interior pressure. Almost all aircraft exits open inward. Some retract upward into the ceiling; others swing outward; but they open inward first, and not even the most musclebound human will overcome the force holding them shut. At a typical cruising altitude, up to eight pounds of pressure are pushing against every square inch of interior fuselage. That’s over eleven hundred pounds against each square foot of door.

The doors are further held secure by a series of electrical and/or mechanical latches.

Phew.

Seems to be a weird month for planes (wow, what a profound statement, Kate)… Late last week residents of a Las Vegas neighborhood woke up to a loud crash after a big hunk from an A-4 military plane detached, bounced off a lady’s roof & crashed into the street. Luckily, besides damage to a car, no one was hurt.

And in another recent incident, according to KTLA, a 30 year old was just banned from Spirit Airlines for life (that’s a good thing, right?) for vaping on a plane.

After getting yelled at by a flight attendant for blowing sweet e-clouds into the cabin…

…the St. Petersburg, Florida resident then got up and headed for the restroom, according to a report filed with the sheriff’s office. While he was in the bathroom, the plane’s smoke alarm went off.

Get it together, people. Flying is enough of a pain as it is…

I’ve had it with these muthafuckin’ vapes on this muthafuckin’ plane.
