Russia Is All Pissed Off At HBO's 'Chernobyl', So It's Making It's Own Remake Blaming Americans For The Disaster

Russian state TV is set to air its own drama about the deadly 1986 Chernobyl disaster – but unlike the HBO series, which has transfixed viewers around the world, this version will claim that a CIA spy was present for the worst nuclear accident in history.

Chernobyl, which will air on Russia’s NTV channel, appears to fulfil a demand from tabloid columnists and state TV news for a more patriotic retelling of the story.

Craig Mazin, the director of the HBO series, famously obsessed over minor details such as shoelaces and telephones, and adopted first-hand accounts of survivors to authentically recreate the Soviet Union of the 1980s.

NTV’s Chernobyl, filmed in Belarus, takes far more liberties. A description of the show says that the plot revolves around a CIA agent dispatched to Pripyat to gather intelligence on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Russian counterintelligence agent sent to track him down.

If it sounds like fiction, that’s because it is. But the director, Alexey Muradov, said the show “will tell viewers about what really happened back then”.

“There is a theory that the Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that on the day of the explosion an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station,” Muradov told the tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda, which said the show “proposes an alternative view on the tragedy in Pripyat”.

Okay so Chernobyl is the new hit mini-series on HBO that everyone is into right now.  It’s VERY good and very harrowing.  I never realized how big a deal it was until I watched the show and realized “shit.  10s of millions of people could have maybe died because of this.”  It was truly fucked up and could have changed the world for worse and forever.

My only gripe with the show is that everyone has a British accent in it.  Even Gorbachev and his freakshow birthmark were speaking in cockney tongue:

But quick Google search shows that Chernobyl is a city located in the northern part of the Ukraine, which was a Soviet held state in 1986 when the disaster occurred:

Not the biggest deal, but knowing in the back of my head that the actors should at the very least have Russian accents bothers me, even if they’re still speaking English in the show.  It’s just kinda cheesy IMO.

But apparently Putin and his kin didn’t take too kindly to the show.  It’s basically launched us into a whole new Cold War with Russia and their state controlled media.  Basically one big he-said-she-said.

‘One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station,’ Muradov explained to the Moscow Times.

Sure thing bub.  Can’t wait until President Trump commissions a film committee to depict how The Challenger disaster was all because Soviet spies snuck into Cape Canaveral and fucked around with the space ship before it launched or some shit.

Dark times, they are ahead
