The Actor That Played Bran Stark Said His Character's Ending In Game Of Thrones Was All Part Of George RR Martin's Vision

EW- The Three-Eyed Raven is clearing up another Game of Thrones mystery. Bran Stark actor Isaac Hempstead Wright revealed in a new HBO behind-the-scenes interview that one of the show’s finale twists was directly from author George R.R. Martin (spoilers ahead).

“[Creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] told me there were two things [author] George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king,” Wright said. “So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.”

So there you have it folks! Bran The Broken being King of Westeros is as much canon as any other moment in Game of Thrones and came directly from George RR Martin’s twisted mind uncut to the gut. In fact, you can make a case that Game of Thrones is actually just the story of Bran Stark with the rest of the show being background noise since everything in Thrones happens because of him peeping in on some hot incest loving or wraps up with him becoming king of the six kingdoms. What I’m trying to say is that Bran Stark is the bread of the sandwich that is Game of Thrones and without him, you are just holding a bunch of cold cuts and condiments in your hand like a fucking savage.

Now I would imagine this doesn’t come as a shock to anybody that knows anything about the show since I imagine part of the stipulation of HBO writing that big fat check to George RR Martin was him giving them as specific an ending as he was going to write when if he finishes the books. But with Benioff & Weiss catching pretty much all the heat on Twitter, petitions, and countless conversations around the world, it’s nice to know that GRRM still was the guy that called the shot on who ended up wearing the crown, no matter how much some people disliked it.

I’m also sure Bran won’t be delivering unintentional comedy as a weirdo staring into nowhere every single time he appears in the books like he did in the final season of the show, which means his rise to the throne will be a lot less controversial. But the bottom line is that Bran The Broken is the one rightful King of Westeros in the show, in the books, and in George RR Martin’s fucked up brain. Long may he reign.
