Jack Mack blogged this over the weekend and I talked about it briefly on the air today…

Robert F. Smith was the commencement speaker at Morehouse College this year and he surprised the graduates mid-speech by casually dropping that he would pay off their student loans.

Hullabaloo ensued and a feel-good story was born.

For reference, Smith is a former chemical engineer and investment banker, who is also the founder, chairman, and CEO of a private equity firm called Vista Equity Partners.

His net worth is $5 billion and he recently jumped Oprah Winfrey as the wealthiest African-American which, when you think about it, is the only way anyone would like to jump Oprah nowadays…

2 things people aren’t talking about concerning this act of kindness:

1) Smith got up there and spoke for OVER AN HOUR in 85-degree heat, and, from what I’ve been told, people were FUCKING MISERABLE before he made that announcement.

And I appreciate the shit out of this move… “I will pay off your debt, BUT YOU WILL SIT THERE QUIETLY IN THE HOT GEORGIA SUN WEARING A CAP AND GOWN AND LISTEN TO EVERY FUCKING WORD I SAY!!!”

2) People may talk about Smith’s philanthropy and ability to amass wealth as being 2 of his greatest traits, but if you were to Google his name, the first suggestion that comes up before “Robert F Smith net-worth” or “Robert F Smith charities” is…

“Robert F Smith wife”

That’s because Rob is married to Playboy Magazine’s Playmate of the Year 2010, Hope Dworaczyk.

If you think I respected Robert for keeping people out in the heat during his commencement, then know I REALLY respect Hope for getting pregnant with Smith’s child in December of 2014, basically locking him into a marriage in July of ’15 (after she dropped the baby weight, I suppose).

And then she dropped ANOTHER son into Smith’s lap in 2016 thereby locking up his affection and/or money for life… Something she was unable to do when she handled Jason Kidd’s balls back in 2009.

The couple seems insanely happy in the handful of photos I pulled, and I commend Robert for never making their 22 year age difference (or her total inability to do housework) an issue.

So if you’re wondering what put Robert F Smith in SUCH a good mood this weekend that he donated $40 million in student debt relief, I think you need to look no further than the other side of his marital bed.
