Rahm Emanuel Out Here Touting The Roadwork Construction Map Site, The Most Pointless Invention Ever

(Curbed)–As warm weather returns and construction season shifts into high gear, Chicagoans have a new online tool for tracking the road repair projects, utility work, and special events impacting their neighborhoods.

Known as ChiStreetWork, the free web-based application went live on Tuesday, city officials announced. It uses the familiar Google Maps interface to display a wide range of information including past, current, and future repaving initiatives and permits for water, sewer, gas, or electrical projects impacting the public right-of-way.

Hosted by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), ChiStreetWork sources its data from various city agencies as well as private utility firms. The map-based interface was previously available only to CDOT staff, aldermanic offices, and the utility companies.

Good ole Rahm Emanuel. The King of doing things for positive press when there’s real problems. Dwindling population and tax base, albatross unfunded pension plans, crime rates, racial tension…can’t fix any of that shit. BUT…HERE IS SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T ASK FOR! Rahm Emanuel’s office built out this website and made it available to the public to let everyone know if there is road work going on in their neighorhood. You simply type in your address, zip code, or ward and it’ll pop up with updated projects going on in the area this summer. Well I am sure that spent thousands of dollars, if not more because its the Chicago governemnt, so I decided to make a quicker and cheaper option that gets the same results. Please see below

It’s summer in Chicago. Whatever your commute to work is will be extra annoying because of the road work. That is just a fact of life. There’s no getting around it. This website is just a waste of time and Rahm is basically encouraging people to look at it while driving. Very unsafe, imo.
