Of Course Bill Belichick Stole the Show at the Celtics Game
With all due respect to Kyrie Irving’s 37 points, some preposterous blocked shots and rebounds by Al Horford and some final minute hero ball by Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward, who got the round of applause that shook the Garden from the floor to the Bobby Orr banner? Not those guys. Not Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon, despite being fresh off holding the 8th highest scoring offense in NFL history. Not even the reigning Super Bowl MVP. It was a quiet, unassuming, 67 year old fashion plate in a Nantucket Red blazer enjoying the game with his scorching hot cougary lady friend on his arm.
And yet, Bill Belichick’s reception barely registered on the sound meter compared to the one his boss got earlier in the series. That one might have cracked the foundation:
BTS doesn’t get that kind of reaction from an arena filled with 16 year old Korean girls. But that’s the kind of emotional connection going on between Massholes and the greatest dynasty the City of Champions has known since the Bill Russell Celtics.
And huge credit is due to Wyc Grosbeck and his organization. They get it. They don’t just talk about the bond between the franchises and then try to undermine their more successful football counterparts the way John Henry does. They strive to become them.
Is that the reason the Celtics are up 2-0? I’m not saying it is. But I’m not saying it’s not the reason, either. I’m just saying that Coach Belichick and Mr. Kraft are like the Ark of the Covenant and the One Ring made flesh. And no army that travels with them can ever be defeated is all.
Hopefully this will register with John Henry. While his newspaper does nothing but try to diminish everything the Patriots have accomplished, say the fans are losing interest and sue for the right to publish an illegally obtained video of a 77-year-old man getting a hand job, these men blow off his Opening Day invitation and his team is 6-13. Cause. Effect.
P.S. If Henry wants to make peace with these better men, the first thing he can do it drop the lawsuit. But the second thing is to supervise Gronk better. This is what happens when you let children run wild without a responsible adult.
