Wake Up With A Must Watch MLB Ejection From The 80's
Joe Maddon got tossed last night for arguing balls and strikes. It’s pretty much guaranteed in 2019 that when you leave the dugout, you’re getting ejected so no surprise there. It’s MLB’s way of trying to put some structure around an extremely volatile part of the game that would otherwise be a non stop bitch fest.
At the same time, it robs fans of electric content like this 1989 Don Zimmer ejection. On several occasions I expected this to turn into a fist fight with no one interrupting it. You would never see this shit today. Count how long it takes for someone to intervene.
86 seconds. That’s how long this shit went down before someone got between this
I love the internet and all the advances we’ve made the last 30 years but pound for pound baseball was better when your manager’s temper was considered a value add. A time when getting pissed off and telling someone to go fuck themselves was part of the game. That’s when managers ruled the baseball world and suffice to say those days are long gone. Now you practically run errands for the front office and make sure everyone shows up on time. It’s a damn shame. I would love to see a 32 year old MBA grad tell Don Zimmer how to set the day’s lineup. That would be some shit.
