GoT Fan Theory Of The Day: Et Tu, Tyrion?

Spoilers.

OKAY, back on the Season 8 theories train. There are a bunch of theories bouncing around that Tyrion will betray Daenerys. That’s not new; people have been theorizing this since the dawn of time. Not really, but definitely since the season 7 finale.

Basically, people are interpreting TWO key scenes in the season 7 finale as proof that Tyrion has plotted to betray Daenerys with Cersei about her unborn child. If you recall, Tyrion realizes that Cersei is pregnant when they meet to discuss why Cersei should help the North’s cause. Reddit user Enervata put it most concisely (you can read their full post here):

My gut says that Tyrion cut a deal with Cersei to recognize her child as the legitimate heir to the throne once he/she is born. He did so for 3 good reasons: 1) Cersei won’t attack Dany and her army anymore, since it no longer matters if they live or die because her child will be next in line in either case. 2) Dany is convinced she can’t have children (or at least doesn’t care about succession). 3) Tyrion is trying his best to avoid Lannister versus Targaryen round 2, because he knows how it will end.

That scene between Tyrion and Cersei is weirdly shot. It’s cut off before we hear the entire conversation. Nothing in Game of Thrones is ever unintentional, which means there is probably a reason they didn’t show us exactly what went down. Tyrion tells Jon and Daenerys what was said, but is he a reliable narrator? Cersei already double crossed them by having Euron go fetch the Golden Company, what if she was actually quadruple crossing them? (triple crossing? idk what this would be called)

The second scene is when Jon and Daenerys are having some good old fashioned boat sex as Tyrion looks on with a pensive look. A lot of people were like yo.. what’s up with Tyrion lurking in the shadows like a creep? Is he in love with Daenerys? But if Tyrion made a deal regarding Cersei’s child and it’s now somewhat possible for Daenerys to have her own child, it would explain the frick out of that weird look.

Obviously we don’t want Daenerys to be betrayed!! However, she probably will be, because of the prophecy that says she’s going to suffer “three treasons”:

In “A Clash of Kings”, when Daenerys is in the House of the Undying, she hears this prophecy:

“. . . three treasons will you know . . . once for blood and once for gold and once for love . . .”

It’s commonly theorized that Mirri Maz Durr was her betrayal for blood (getting revenge on the Dothraki for raping her/burning her temple via killing Daenerys’ unborn baby and Khal Drogo) and Jorah Mormont was her betrayal for gold (spying on her so he could come back to Westeros and be a lord again). Could Tyrion be her betrayal for love, since despite him hating Cersei that’s still his sister and he would love her unborn child? It’s worth a thought~~~

Overall, this theory is almost too plausible. It’s like its so obvious and plausible that it’s actually not going to happen because that would make too much sense. I can’t decide if that means I give it a 10 or a 1. I feel like probably a 10? Plausibility is 10/10. And then the spiciness is an issue too because it’s almost too obvious to be interesting? But it would sure make it interesting for Tyrion to not be a good guy. I’ll go 5/10 spiciness. Overall it’s a 15/10
