I Have Become Obsessed With Everything Mötley Crüe After This Weekend

So you probably thought it would be Robbie Fox writing this blog considering it’s about Mötley Crüe but nope. I have become utterly obsessed with everything having to do with Mötley Crüe and this all started Friday night. Listen, I know how outrageous this sounds coming from a 21 year old girl who talks about pop culture and the Kardashians for a living but I was raised in a household where my parents would scream, “WHEN WE STARTED THIS BAND ALL WE NEEDED WAS A LAUGH YEARS GONE BY, I’D SAY WE’VE KICKED SOME ASS!” in my kitchen. I do have videos of this happening but I’ll refrain from embarrassing my parents because if you’ve heard my singing voice than you could pretty much guess what they sound like.

Anyways, on Friday the Mötley Crüe biopic ‘The Dirt’ was released on Netflix and it’s something I’ve been looking forward to for months now because Robbie Fox has been hyping up the book for so long and discussing the movie so often that I became even more interested. Robbie has obviously read the book probably 100 times but I’ve never read the book besides knowing some scattered details like Nikki Sixx’s overdose, Tommy Lee with Pam & Heather, and Vince Neil going to jail. When I was 11 years old we went on a family trip to Vegas because my parents would do anything to gamble, and my dad insisted that we go see Vince Neil’s tattoo shop even though he had already visited it once or twice before. Little did I know there was MUCH MUCH MUCH more to Mötley Crüe that I was yet to find out about until watching ‘The Dirt’. The first time I watched was at 1:00 AM Friday night (Saturday morning) and I proceeded to watch it 5 more times this past weekend.

I don’t care whether you hated it or not, this is my favorite movie that I’ve seen in a very long time. I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie and then continued to watch it multiple times in a span of 2 days. I think the last one I could remember doing that with is ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’. Not sure what it says about me that both movies include a ton of strippers and drugs but I digress. I loved this movie so much that I figured if I’m going to be that into this movie I need to read the book. I’m now 300 pages deep within my first 2 days of reading. I think when I first told Robbie I was going to read the book immediately he laughed it off until I texted him 2 hours later that I was 200 pages deep. The lives of every single band member fascinate me like no other. They’re the most ridiculous human beings who have done things you can’t even imagine or think of and yet THEY’RE STILL FUCKING ALIVE!

As for the movie, Machine Gun Kelly killed it as Tommy Lee but for me the standout was Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx.

After reading the book and going back to watch the movie, he portrayed the ups and downs of Nikki Sixx in a way that captivated me like no other character in a movie has done before. It might have something to do with how sexy he looks but the overall performance really won me over. Some scenes are extremely tough to watch like when he’s injecting heroin and completely going downhill but without those scenes we wouldn’t really be able to experience what their lives were truly like. I’ve read a lot of reviews that have a problem with the fact that the movie went from a comedy with sex, partying, and fun to an extremely dark movie but that was literally their life. It wouldn’t be based on a true story if they completely left out the dark parts.

Another fun part of the movie was the little details they included without having to say anything. When Nikki Sixx overdosed Slash was there and in the movie you can see the camera pan to what appears to be Slash passed out on the couch.
