Rory McIlroy Holds Off Jim Furyk And Is The 2019 Players Champion

Finalllllllllllllly man. Up until today, there was a growing narrative that Rory couldn’t close out tournaments and it was getting louder and louder after each week where Rory would be in contention but wouldn’t come away with a win. He kept being in final groups and coming away empty handed. Rory has been in the mix so much recently without finishing the job that people were starting to wonder if he was incapable of closing anymore. It seems silly when you remember Rory has 4 majors under his belt but the last one came in his magical 2014 year. It’s 2019 now and, while Rory has won a bunch of PGA Tour events since then, he hadn’t won a major or a tournament like The Players. He shut all of those people up today with his win at TPC Sawgrass.

There’s no doubt that he was due. Look at his finishes this year

Weirdly the more times he finished in the top-10 without a W the more people wondered why he couldn’t win. Paul Azinger was critical of Rory on Fore Play this week for not being able to close out tournaments. Alllllllllllll of that goes away after today. Nobody is allowed to question Rory anymore. He just won The Players Championship, has 4 majors, 15 wins and he doesn’t turn 30 until May. That’s insane.

The bottomline is that golf is way more fun when Rory is winning tournaments. Remember how fun 2014 was when he won back-to-back majors and lit the world on fire? That was ridiculously fun. Rory walks like he has a baseball bat between his legs and it’s great to watch when he backs that walk up.

Him pulling driver on 18 and piping it down the middle is why he walks like that

Boss shit. Not to mention he held off a stacked leaderboard, a charging Jim Furyk and incredibly hard conditions and still got the win. He’ll take home $2,250,000 for his troubles. Not too shabby.

This is pretty good imo
