The College Hoops Conference Tournament Roundup: Day 3

We’re at the best time of the year. The part where everyone gets involved and cares about college hoops. So with that in mind I understand that there are a million different games going on and you can’t keep up with them all. So we’ll update you every morning with what happened the night before through the NCAA Tournament. Forget all other sites, we got you here.

Patriot (Championship)
Thoughts:
Colgate is good, man. That game was highly entertaining. It was a relatively slow 7pm slate so with this game on TV1 got an idea on watching these guys play. Colgate shot the hell out of the ball and really what impressed me was the ability to stay under control despite Bucknell making a run in the 2nd half to cut the lead to 4. Part of it was being at home. Part of it was just composure.

ACC (Second Round)
Thoughts: The big story here was obviously the NC State/Clemson game. Yeah, Clemson blew a huge lead and we’ll get into that. But, I don’t know how Clemson gets in the NCAA Tournament now. They don’t have a bad loss. But, they also didn’t win. You have to be better than 1-10 in Q1 games for me to say yeah you’re a TOurnament team. As for that game? Well, this is sort of Clemson in a nutshell. They’ve blown a couple games and lost some late this season. Just another one. Oh, and then there was Buddy Boeheim who turned into Buddy Devendorf. Keep an eye on if Tyus Battle doesn’t play again today.

Big East (1st Round)

Thoughts: Huge win for St. John’s. A loss there and they are probably eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. It was cool to see MSG pretty packed for a 1st round game. Most of these tournaments end up playing in front of no one on the first night, but it was awesome to see MSG pretty busy. Things really pick up now. Butler fans are pissed, but don’t give up on Lavall Jordan yet. It was year 2. There will be some learning pains. He’s not Stevens or Holtmann. Long live Gus and Raft.

Big 10 (1st Round)
Thoughts:
Not too much here. Good win for Illinois just to get that young core a win in the Big 10 Tournament. Rutgers absolutely fell apart. Good for Nebraska. They had some serious expectations this year as a preseason top-25ish type team. Then injuries happened and the season sort of fell apart for them. As for Rutgers. Well, unfortunately we’ll always have last year with that run.

SEC (1st Round)
Thoughts:
Not much to say here. Two games that no one really cared about. We’ll pick up with the SEC today. Neither game was really that exciting or had anything notable.

Big 12 (1st Round)
Thoughts: I know people will point directly at Oklahoma going 7-11 in the Big 12 and losing to West Virginia. Here’s the thing. They have 10 quadrant 1 and 2 wins. They are liked in all metrics. Yes, it sucks that a mid-major can go 14-4 in their conference and not get the benefit of the doubt. But, Oklahoma won games that matter. That said, they can’t stop losing in heartbreaking fashion on reviews in the Big 12 Tournament. But, ow about the near collapse from TCU? I’ll say this. Oklahoma State is going to be an interesting, interesting team next year.

Pac-12 Tournament (1st Round)
Thoughts: There are none. It’s the Pac-12 on the Pac-12 Network. No one really has the Pac-12 Network. This conference stinks this year.
