Monday Night Music - Oasis, Alice In Chains, And Sara Bareilles

I forgot to do this last weekend because I’m a big dumb idiot, but Monday Night Music is back!

If you don’t know what I’m trying to do with Monday Night Music as a blog series, basically, I’m just throwing three random live performances out there per week for y’all to enjoy on a Monday night, with not a ton of rhyme or reason behind the choices. They’re not a top three, or a countdown of any sort…just some great live acts doin’ their thing on stage.

Oasis – Don’t Look Back In Anger (Live from River Plate Stadium 2009)

One of the greatest singalong songs ever written, being sung-along as good as it ever was. Argentina took Noel Gallagher saying to “Feel free to join in on the chorus!” to heart, and basically put this legendary performance on themselves. Super-chills.

Alice In Chains – It Ain’t Like That / Man In The Box (Live from MTV’s Facelift 1990)

Alright, throw that BritPop shit out the window for a second and allow Alice in Chains to go harder than anyone’s ever gone. God damn, Layne Staley was a GOD. This one’s a twofer as well to make up for missing last week. Don’t worry about it, it’s on the house.

Rest in Power, Layne.

Sara Bareilles – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Live from the Variety Playhouse 2013)

Gotta take ya down from where Alice in Chains just left ya so you don’t murder somebody tonight.

If you didn’t already know, Sara Bareilles is one of my all time favorite singers. Do what you will with that, take my man card if you must, I just fucking love Sara Bareilles. ‘Brave Enough: Live at the Variety Playhouse’ is an absolutely phenomenal live album she put out in 2013, where she performs solo, just her and a piano, and caps the night off with a cover of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

Elton, upon hearing the cover, said “I’ve never heard someone sing one of my songs like that ever,” and told Sara, “You blew my mind.” Apparently he also claimed that nobody else should ever attempt a cover of the track ever again, as Bareilles knocked it out of the park better than he ever could’ve imagined anyone could. If that stamp of approval don’t do it for ya, I don’t know what will.
