Tommy's Thursday Thoughts: Vol. 9 - I'm Giving Up Hypocrisy For Lent
-In the Catholic Church, you are supposed to give something up for Lent (now until Easter). I am giving up hypocrisy for Lent. If I actually gave something up, that would be hypocritical. While I do believe in God, I am not really religious and haven’t been to church in a very long time. If I followed the church for a couple months and gave up say, chocolate or something, I’d really just be a hypocrite. So I won’t give up anything, which is thus giving up hypocrisy. Genius. (I will also be eating meat on Fridays).
-It must be so awesome being the type of person who can say “I’m gonna kick your ass” and not get laughed at.
-Most jalapeños really aren’t that spicy. I’m sure some are, but the standard jalapeño you get atop a plate of nachos isn’t that bad. Yet a lot of people always say, “Oh the jalapeños are too spicy, I’m not eating those.” I think those people have just never actually tried a jalapeño. They’ve only heard the rumors and gossip about how spicy jalapeños are. People who eat jalapeños are in on the secret that jalapeños really aren’t that spicy.
-An underrated fact about me is that my great, great uncle is credited with inventing the modern umbrella.
-“Kicking and Screaming” is a landmark film for the Italian community. There’s a scene where they yell “Get the ball to the Italians!” and a montage plays of them dribbling while Italian music plays. It’s the most proud I’ve ever been to be Italian.
-I recently made my Instagram private for growth purposes. (Would be a REAL shame if you followed me @tomscibelli). So I have to accept follow requests manually as they come in. I’m on Instagram quite a lot, so I will often see one come in and immediately accept it. I was initially worried people would think I’m a loser for instantly accepting requests, but then I told myself that maybe people think I have a program that automatically accepts them immediately. So let’s just roll with that being true even though it’s not and I just spend too much time on Instagram.
-There is a fine line when it comes to “Finish that up” territory with food. I was having dinner with my family recently and my mom threw a “finish that up” at me for a significant amount of mac and cheese. It was well out of “finish that up” territory. You can only use “finish that up” if there’s 2, maybe 3 bites left. Otherwise it’s a huge ask of somebody.
-You can keep ice coffee cold (via refrigerator) but you can’t really keep hot coffee hot. It can be reheated in a microwave, but there’s no common way to consistently retain its heat, like a refrigerator consistently remains coldness. I know there are fancy gadgets out there you can buy, but I’m talking about common household items.
-One of my favorite lies is telling people that my great, great uncle is credited with inventing the modern umbrella.
-I’m sorry for what I’m about to do to you. But every time I think about blinking or breathing, it becomes very difficult to breathe or blink. I just get in my own head. “Should I be blinking now? When do I blink? Am I blinking too much? When do I take a breathe? I feel out of breathe.” Apologies if I just got in your head.
Thank you for your time.
