Jon Gruden is Making it Clear He's Still the Ultimate Grinder
Source – Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock says coach Jon Gruden’s legendary early rising isn’t just a legend.
Mayock said today at the Scouting Combine that in his brief time working with Gruden, he’s already been amazed by what an early start Gruden gets on the day.
“It’s been kind of a whirlwind couple of months,” Mayock said. “I’ve known Gruden for a lot of years, but you walk in at 5:30 in the morning and he looks at you, ‘Why are you late? I’ve been here an hour.’ It’s been awesome.”
If you’re scouting the 2019 NFL Combine, you can put in your report right now that nobody gets off the line faster than Jon Gruden. Half the teams hadn’t even arrived at Indy and he already was establishing his bone fides as the hardest working Football Guy in the Football Guy business.
Offseason days where he’s at his desk hours before other coaches have even shaken off their morning wood. Multitasking All-22s in the back of the SUV. If you told he goes to bed with his headset on replaying all his coaching communication from the season and he’s got a white board above the urinal in his office bathroom, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised.
Tell me something, boy? Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore? Not if you’re Gruden, the ultimate Grinder. With him it’s A.B.C.
A-Always. B-Be. C-Coaching. Always. Be. Coaching.
Sure, it didn’t stop him from going 4-12 last year. With the NFL’s worst defense and 28th ranked offense. But that isn’t going to stop him from letting it be known he’s the hardest working guy in Indy. Hell, he’s even beating everyone to the punch on player interviews.
It remains to be seen who runs the fastest 40, jumps the highest and does the most reps on the bench. But we do know for sure no one is going to outgrind Gruden.
