Clint Frazier Is Ditching the Nickname "Red Thunder" Along With His Concussions - Both Incredible Decisions In My Opinion

There are many guys on the New York Yankees with a lot to prove in the year 2019. Is Luke Voit a fluke? Can Luis Severino find himself again? Will Giancarlo Stanton regain his MVP form with a year in New York under his belt? Will Greg Bird do…anything? Well, there’s one man who has everything to prove and he’s finally going to get his shot…that’s Clint Frazier.

Now I say Clint Frazier and what comes to mind? For me it’s unlucky. Clint came up in 2017 and immediately lit the Yankees world on fire. His balls to the wall playing style was infectious and gave this team a spark it ever so desperately needed. The dude hit a walk off homer in his first week in the big leagues. That’s as awesome as it gets.

Unfortunately an oblique strain train-wrecked that season and he was rushed back too early in my opinion. Last season Clint suffered a terrible brain injury in February and could not escape it. We had him on The Short Porch’s most recent episode where he discussed in detail how scary it all was and what the road back to this point was like.

As Yankees fans obviously we wanted him back on the field, especially given the fact that Shane Robinson was playing in right for the better part of two months while Judge was out with his wrist injury. It was the perfect scenario for Clint to burst back on the scene and give us a jolt of electricity, but his concussion and migraines just got worse. On the human side of things, Clint couldn’t function properly, never mind play baseball. He went into detail on the pod and it’s honestly CRAZY the shit he had to deal with.

Pitchers and catchers report to Tampa next week, but a small group of Yankees have already made their way down there to get a head start. Clint, now fully healthy, was part of the first arrivals yesterday and couldn’t wait to get to work. The dude is as motivated as you can be and I cannot wait to see him out there.

We talked about a wide array of things, but one thing we had to set straight was his nickname. Red Thunder was quite possibly the worst nickname ever given to anyone in good taste. Clint hated it as much as we did, so we’re moving on thank god.

Clint also brought up some old tweets of mine when I wasn’t exactly a big fan of his back in 2017. I respect the hell out of this move, but I think now we’re in as good a place as we’ve ever been. I’ve never had more anxiety in my life than this moment below.

Give the episode a listen here. Clint gave us a full hour of his time and he was open and honest about everything. If you didn’t like him before, you will now. We should all be rooting for him.

One week until pitchers and catchers report. Let’s fucking go!!!
