Stop Lumping Me In With Greenie's Shitty Blogs

So this has been a little bit in the making. Listen, Greenie grinds. No doubt about that. Dude loves the Celtics. I can appreciate a guy who loves a specific team, especially when it comes to basketball.

I hate the Celtics. So that’s strike 1.

Strike 2 was Dave Portnoy lumping me with him calling us ‘the basketball boys’ when a viral moment wasn’t captured during the opening night game between the Sixers/Celtics. Weird, because again go back to strike 1.

So last night this play happened:

Yeah, Chris Clemons, the 5’9″ star from Campbell is nice.  Yeah, he hit a buzzer beater against Radford. Yeah, you might not know who he is because again, he plays for fucking Campbell. Yeah, I saw it:

But, that’s not the point. Strike 3:

One thing we learned from blogger school and talking to people is not to clutter the blog with pointless blogs. Listen, I love Campbell. I love Chris Clemons. People don’t give a shit about Chris Clemons hitting a buzzer beater in January against Radford. People care when it’s March.

That’s just the fact.

Now, you can say why did I blog the KAT buzzer beater? Well, it was tweeted from our main account. Dave talked about things on social going on the blog. If I see something on the main account, it feels like I should to link it to the blog:

It was so important the social media team tweeted it twice. I waited to see what would happen. Would it get blogged? I tend to try and stick to just college hoops during the season, especially at night. People have things go on, I get that. We’re all relatively normal human beings.

Then I woke up this morning, nothing. Last thing I wanted to deal with was Keith or Dave yelling at ‘us’ because something didn’t get blogged that was on social. So I figured, let’s go put something together. Maybe have a little fun.

Could the headline have been better than a D+? Probably. But, we’re trying to make a point here. And that point is at least we’re not an F:

The other thing. We were told to start focusing on different angles or aspects of a viral play/action/whatever. Chris Clemons hits buzzer beaters multiple times a year. In fact he hit one last year against Radford. There’s also a million college hoops games and as much as we love mid-majors they don’t do well pageviews wise unless something absolutely crazy happens.

What doesn’t typically happen is a teammate falling down face first like Steph Curry, or a radio announcer getting such a high voice it sounds like he was kicked in the nuts. That may have been worth a blog, but probably not:

So, yeah, you got me on not blogging a Chris Clemons buzzer beater. But, did you actually? More importantly, can I stop being lumped in with shitty blogs? I mean I’d prefer not to be one that talks about how great Danny Ainge is with his whole 1 title in 16 years:

Yeah, my headlines need work. But as Kmarko, who I think is the best EIC in the entire land, said I do find interesting stories. My headlines just suck – I’m man enough to admit that. I’m 31! We’re trying to get there.

Honestly, this feels good. I’ve been in the midwest for over a decade now and frankly I feel like I’ve gotten a bit soft than my east coast roots. I need to be mad at someone and this just lit my fuse. It’s been a hell of a week from blogger school to my pipe bursting to Syracuse/Virginia Tech not scoring in the last 55 seconds of a game to hit the over. People don’t forget.

I’ve always been a bit of a lone man out here with Barstool. Part of the territory when you’re not in the office and you live in a city where no one else works. You just sit here, blog, get a surprise tweet from Deke Zucker on Twitter and you know you’re in trouble for something. So needless to say if I’m getting lumped in with someone I want a say in this shit.

In reality, maybe this will get me to my C grade. That’s where the bread is buttered, baby.

I think this is where I’m supposed to insert a YouTube highlight package instead of something from a Barstool social media account? Ah, fuck it, I don’t think I wrote enough for that to happen.
