When Is A Thirst Trap Too Thirsty?

This morning, my good friend Kayce Smith texted me with a dilemma. She took a “fire” selfie but was worried that it was too “thirsty” to post. She then sent me the picture and oh my WORD. When I tell you this picture is good, my words can’t even do justice to it. It’s like the Sistine Chapel of selfies. It’s like the Mona Lisa of thirst traps. I told her in no uncertain terms that the world needed to see that picture, because it would launch a thousand ships like Helen of Troy (oh my god, was the launch a thousand ships thing a metaphor for dicks? might have to investigate that). Still, Kayce worried that it was too thirsty.

My question is, who cares? For those of you who don’t know, a thirst trap is technically defined as a selfie you post when you’re feelin’ yourself and you want people (often a single person) to be like oh DAMN. But in my opinion, a thirst trap can just be when you feel like you look real good in a picture and you want to post it, other people be damned. A lot of times I post selfies and it’s not because I want any guy to respond to it, I just feel good and I don’t really care who thinks it’s extra.

You’d be surprised what it does to your self-confidence when you post a thirst trap just for you. When you post something hot, you have a choice. Your choice is to either drive yourself insane worrying what people will think– is it thirsty? Will people think I’m being an attention whore? A regular whore? Will the guy I like think it’s hot? Will my friends think I’m being too extra?– or you can not give a shit and post the stuff you like just because you like it.

My friend Eileen is the Queen of thirst traps. She is happily wifed up, extremely hot, and doesn’t need to post anything to get attention (just like Kayce). Still, every few days I have the privilege of seeing her selfies on Instagram (@ileenbajo). A lot of girls give her shit for it, but she doesn’t care. She and I have talked about it a hundred times, and she always tells me the same thing: it doesn’t matter what insecure people think about my pictures, it matters what I think.

I post “thirst traps” all the time. It took me a while to get comfortable doing it, so I created a filter on snapchat that blocked guys with girlfriends and girls who would be judgmental from seeing them. Now, I don’t care and I’ll post whatever I want on my Instagram story for 75 thousand people to see. I like the way I look, and I don’t think I should have to hide that.

When it comes down to it, there’s literally no downside of posting a thirst trap. Kayce wanted to know what was too thirsty? Nothing. If you feel good about a picture, post it. Obviously I’m not telling you to be posting full nudes on your Instagram, but if you take a selfie you think is hot but has a little more boob than normal, or you’re at the gym and your abs look fantastic in the bathroom mirror, post it anyways. No one loses when you post good pictures. Anyone who would complain about a thirst trap is either a guy who’s mad he can’t fuck you or a girl who’s insecure and taking it out on you.

So post away, ladies. Thirst traps are the hero this world needs, if not the one it deserves.
