Does This Look Like the Face of a Woman Who Stole $7K in Girl Scout Cookie Money?

North Carolina – A woman has been charged with stealing more than $7,000 from the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont.

Winston-Salem Police arrested Debbie Jo Davison who they said was the Cookie Manager for Troop #2819.

Police said on Aug. 30, they received a report of fraud from the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont. Investigators said Davison stole money from the cookie sales and used it for herself.

First off, let’s address the obvious by saying it’s a surprise Debbie Jo Davidson has time to be the Cookie Manager for Troop #2819 in between her searches for One-Eyed Willie’s treasure:

Next, my first reaction is the same as yours: How horrible an excuse for a human being do you have to be to steal money from the Girl Scouts. Until I thought about that dollar amount. Now the biggest question is what kind of a racket are the GSA running anyway?

Seven grand? $7,000 just from this one troop? From cookie sales alone? Something doesn’t add up about this whole operation. In fact, it stinks to high heaven. Nobody steals all the cash and thinks they can get away with it. If you’re a smart thief – and God knows Debbie Jo Davidson looks pretty sharp – you take just enough that the bosses don’t notice it. Or if they do, they accept it on the theory that if you’re not skimming a little, you’re probably hiding a lot.

If a criminal mastermind like Davidson thought no one would miss seven thousand dollars, it staggers the imagination to think how much those little scam artists with their green berets, sashes and merit badges are hauling in. Or better yet, how they’re making their money. I’m not suggesting it’s a Los Pollos Hermanos situation where their whole operation is really a front for a meth lab. But it’s either a front for something or they are a cartel, making a killing in the mass-produced baked treat industry like nobody’s business. It has to be one or the other. Otherwise you’re expecting me to believe a sharp operator like Debbie Jo Davidson would’ve thought she could get away with stealing so much. And I just can’t see that.
