Tyson Fury Plans On Donating His Entire £8 Million Winnings From The Fight To The Poor And Build Homes For Those In Need
Tyson Fury has pledged to donate the £8million he earned for fighting Deontay Wilder to charity. The former heavyweight champion, who drew with Wilder in Los Angeles on Saturday night, said he would give away his earnings to help the homeless. He said before the bout: ‘I’m going to give it to the poor and I’m going to build homes for the homeless.
‘I don’t really have much use for it, I’m not interested in becoming a millionaire or a billionaire. I’m a boxer not a businessman and I’ll probably go down the same route as every other boxer – skint at the end of it all.
‘You can’t take it with you, so I might as well do something with it and help out people who can’t help themselves.’ Fury, from Manchester, battled drug and alcohol addiction as well as mental health difficulties before his comeback on Saturday.
He said: ‘When I go home I’m going to build some homes for the homeless and set up some funds for drug addicts and alcoholics. ‘I was always going to do it but being here (in California) gives me that extra push to go and do it even more.
Yesterday I wrote a blog commending Tyson Fury’s post-fight interview where he dedicated the fight against Wilder to every person battling with mental illness. I’ve essentially fallen in love with this guy since I started learning about his past and what he represents. Bottom line, he’s a great fucking dude. Fury has now pledged to donate his entire winnings of £8 million (around $9 million) to the poor and help build homes for those in need back in Manchester. He’s going to set up funds for drug addicts and alcoholics and try to get them right. Fury has been through the ringer and back. He’s been at death’s doorstep ready to give in, but he’s battled like a motherfucker and made it back to this point. He’s got a family with four kids and one more on the way. He’s happy for once (it seems) and was just relieved to make it out of the fight breathing in one piece.
Fury says he has no use for the money. God I wish I could be so content with my life where money just isn’t an issue. He’s not interested in becoming a millionaire or a billionaire. He’s not in it for the endorsements and to become a superstar like McGregor or Mayweather. Not that there’s another wrong with fame, it’s just not for Fury. If you can’t appreciate this guy then there’s something wrong with you. I went from barely knowing who these two men were back on Monday to being completely all-in on one of them. Tyson Fury is one of the few good people left on this Earth. I can’t get enough of him.
