Back in September, Floyd Mayweather posted a video to his Instagram captured at a concert in Japan where he “just so happened” to run into Manny Pacquiao, captioned: “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another 9 figure pay day on the way.”

Manny then posted a clip of the same confrontation, from a different angle, to his Twitter, captioned: “50-1 #NoExcuses”

Since then, though, we haven’t heard much about a potential rematch between the two aging boxers – even though there’ve been murmurs of outside fights for both Floyd and Manny in the mean time. Until now, however.

This afternoon, I received confirmation that both Leonard Ellerbe – CEO of Mayweather Promotions – and Manny Pacquiao himself are in New York City this weekend with plans to discuss the fight.

I have no idea where the two sides are at in negotiations, or if they’ve even started at this point, but I think I know Floyd, and if I do, he’ll want to get this deal done quickly while his name is still ridin’ high off of this New Year’s Eve “fight” with Japanese kickboxing phenom Tenshin Nasukawa.

Story still developing. Stay tuned.*

*When I saw stay tuned, I mean mostly to the top combat sports journalists in the world, not necessarily to me. I don’t think I’ll be able to get a scoop worthy enough of providing an update at this point. Just an entry-level guy. For now.
