Nike Really Does Knock Their Basketball Commercials Out Of The Park

I’ll give it to Nike, those people know what their doing when it comes to basketball advertising. Maybe that’s part of the reason they are basically a monopoly, but each year I am excited to see what they put out. I think part of that has to do with the fact that I spent the last near decade of my life working in advertising, but even since I was a kid I always loved the stuff Nike put out. Well this year we’ve already seen a pretty good LeBron commercial

and so far we’ve also gotten two of these “The Dreamers” animated commercials. First with Devin Booker

I won’t get into the particulars like how that 70 point performance came in a loss, it’s still a great ad. Then the other day we got our next one from Ben Simmons

Looks it’s not crazy to say you give me anything with an Australian accent I’m going to love it. I dare you to find someone who doesn’t. Personally I like the one from Simmons better, pretty good dig by that kangaroo too. I think I also like these so much because I get a little “Recess” feel from them, which hands down is a VERY underrated cartoon. I used to rush home from Hebrew School every Saturday at noon to make sure I caught that show (shoutout Temple Sinai). I will not accept any Recess slander in the comments of this blog so don’t even try.

Also, because I am weak minded, this also made me go back and look at some of my other favorite Nike basketball ads. Remember this one? This may have been the commercial of my childhood that I’m pretty sure I got a VHS tape of this of when I bought a pair on Nike basketball shoes back in the day

That shit still plays and who among us didn’t try and replicate the dribbling displayed in this commercial. We all failed, but god dammit was it fun trying. Anyway, I hope this is something Nike puts out throughout the whole season and I can’t wait to see who else we get. Again maybe I’m the only one who cares about this because my life used to be making commercials/ads, but I think it’s safe to say Nike knocked this campaign idea out of the park.

If it were up to you, who would you do next and what would be the plot? It’s Friday so let’s talk about it, what are you going to do instead? Work? Grow up.
