Woman Barred From Sixers Game For 'Inappropriate Outfit'

Before Barstool I worked at the Wells Fargo Center where the Flyers & 76ers play, and when it came to concerts of any genre & Sixers games of any importance it was part event/part fashion show. There were plenty of people like me giving off a strong basic-McPoyle vibe…

…but many others would be dressed to the nines in the latest styles, walking around to be seen before taking their seats. This is especially true at any arena for some who sit in the front rows. Money, status, crazy boots on polished maple, the usual.

Last week at the Sixers opener courtside style proved to be an issue for fan Shaliah Rimsay when she wasn’t let into the game by security. A leotard, fishnet stockings & a jacket were deemed inappropriate.

From NBC Philadelphia:

“They stopped us and said I couldn’t even go past the metal detectors and I couldn’t wear what I’m wearing,” Rismay said.
Rismay was with Philly photographer and marketing guru Big Rube at the time. He said he made it through security and recorded security officials as they spoke with Rismay.

“What happened here was straight discrimination,” he said. “That was utterly embarrassing to have 15 men surround her so nobody else could see her. This happened at the tip off. We didn’t get in the game at half time.”

A spokesperson for the 76ers told NBC10 the organization doesn’t have a dress code and that they didn’t find out about the incident until Monday.

My feelings on this? If you got it, flaunt it. If guys have been okay-ed with Dumb & Dumber costumes, lazy sweatsuits or eye catching ‘fits why can’t Rismay strut her fashion, especially if there’s no dress code. I think so long as there’s no body-holes of any sort touching the seat & you don’t make so much contact with it that you need to wipe it down after like a thigh machine at the gym, you’re fine. You do you.

I also imagine the security person who stopped them being the gargoyle fixture type who has worked there since nineteen-dickity-two. People who still clutch their pearls and promote modesty are likely throwing stones at glasses houses in some way or another. She’s not at a funeral (Atlanta Hawks game), she’s at a sporting event to be entertained. Who cares?

In the end they finally let her in after getting a hoodie which clearly wasn’t needed or used once she was on the scene. The only problem I see here is danger of scuffing some wood.
