The PGA Tour's TOUR Championship Will Have A Player START The Tournament 10-under Par Next Year (I'm dead serious)

Golf ChannelThe No. 1 player on the post-season points list will begin the finale at 10 under par. The next four players will start at 8 under through 5 under, respectively, while Nos. 6-10 will begin the tournament at 4 under par with the total regressing by one stroke every five players with those ranked 26th through 30th starting at even par. The winner at East Lake will also claim the FedExCup.

Amazing. I hate it so much that I love it. It’s chaos. I love it because everyone else hates it. I love it because all the golf purist geeks are losing their fucking minds. They’re going apeshit. They’re on their knees looking up at the sky praying for Old Tom Morris to give them answers. Asking how the Tour could have possibly wronged them this severely after all the hard work they’ve done gargling over the traditions of the game.

Wait, wait, wait. Let me type it again. One player is going to START the tournament…………….. 10-under par. He’s going to be announced on the first tee on Thursday and the leaderboard next to him will have -10 next to it.

Bahahaha.

Having a guy start one of the biggest tourneys of the year 10-under and counting it as an official win for the winner is so dumb it’s smart. It’s so bad it’s good. Golf twitter will explode in controversy over this forever and finally the PGA Tour will actually be in control of the controversy. It won’t be some stupid rules violation they’re embarrassed about; it will be the stupid staggered scoring format which they critically considered, tested, and then implemented themselves. Intentionally. On purpose.

It’s genius. It’s so unbelievably stupid that it’s brilliant. I love it.

Bravo, PGA Tour. Bravo.
