They strike out on signing John Tavares in free agency but then bounce back by making a trade for Erik Karlsson where all they had to get rid of was a middle-six center, some prospects and a few draft picks that really wouldn’t have helped them out anyway. Obviously they still have to worry about signing Erik Karlsson long-term and it’s not like they won’t miss Chris Tierney at all. But I’m pretty sure every team in the league would have given up that package plus more to get Erik Karlsson in return.
