Mike Greenberg Says That Saturday Was The Worst Day The Sport of Tennis Has Ever Had, But Completely Forgot That Monica Seles Got Stabbed in the Back With a Knife Mid-Match in the 90s

Saturday for sure was not a good day for the sport of tennis with all of the Serena stuff going on. Mike Greenberg on ESPN’s Get Up went on a two minute rant about what happened. He opened the rant saying he’s been watching tennis for 40 years and this was the single worst day the sport has ever seen. As Whit pointed out, Greeny forgot about a pretty crazy moment –  Monica Seles being STABBED in a match in Hamburg, Germany in 1993.

So the background here was that Seles was the number one ranked women’s tennis player in the world. Günter Parche, a mentally disturbed Steffi Graff super fan, jumped down from the stands in between games and stabbed Seles with a fucking boning knife in the back. Imagine this happening in today’s world? Imagine if a pro athlete of any sport got stabbed mid game? That would be fucking crazy. Somehow, someway Parche was not thrown in jail and instead given two years of probation and psychological treatment. Seles missed two years of tennis after being scarred by the incident and only won one more grand slam title after that incident.

I figured a lot of you have no idea about this story so figured I’d drop some knowledge and the old video. I would say the number one player in the world being stabbed in the back with a knife by a crazy fan was the worst day in the sport’s history.
