Tiger Woods Posts Lowest Tournament Total Since 2013, But Comes Up Short

Great week from Tiger. He hit the ball PHENOMENALLY and putted solidly, but just not consistently enough. He ultimately missed too many looks and will come up 3 or 4 shots short. Another near miss.

Tiger said afterward that the past year has been a lot of hard work and patience. He’s had to learn a new swing because he’s got a new body. Had to learn new equipment because he’s got a new swing. Had to learn new feels because he’s got new equipment.

Yet he nearly won 2 majors, he made the Ryder Cup team and made it to East Lake. Impressive. We’re all still left disappointed because we expect him to win, we want him to win, we demand he win, but all things considered, the last 12 months have been some of the most impressive of his entire career. He went from down and out, from his 4th back surgery followed by a humiliating DUI arrest, to competing at the highest level. Impressive.

Anyone claiming “this wave of new players is just too good now,” I raise you this:

Tiger’s had some great stretches but he still hasn’t played his best for 72 holes. He still hasn’t finished a tournament this year and left us thinking, “that was the best he’s got.”

When he brings that, he will win. It’s that simple.
