Well I Hope The Washington Capitals Are Happy Because They May Have Gotten Stanley Cup Keg Stands Banned For Life

WaPo – “We ask them politely not to do it,” Pritchard said. “We’re trying to preserve the history of the Stanley Cup. We don’t want any unnecessary damage to it or a person, in case they drop the person or he presses too hard or something.”

Before the Capitals even get their names engraved on the Stanley Cup, they might have already made their mark on it, as potentially the first and last team ever to use it for keg stands. Future champions could be prohibited from replicating Washington’s trademark celebration.

“We’ll see what happens as we move forward with the Cup,” Pritchard said. “At the end of September, the Cup is going in to get engraved and updated and cleaned and everything, so we’ll see how it is because we have to take it apart then and everything. We’ll know probably more then, in early October, once it’s back for the home opener. Our biggest thing is respect for it.”

What a bunch of selfish pricks. Listen, guys. I’m happy for you. I really am. As a fan of a team who just won their first championships (ICYMI: the Eagles are Super Bowl Champs), I understand the copious amounts of joy and jubilation the Washington Capitals were feeling this entire offseason. It’s a great feeling that should be cherished and celebrated. And if you’ve been keeping up with all of Nate’s blogs over the summer, you’ll know that the Caps have been doing quite a bit of celebrating with Lord Stanley’s Cup.

But there comes a time in every man’s life when you need to realize that enough is enough. At some point, somebody needs to put their foot down and say to the team, “Okay, guys. We’ve had our fun and we earned all of it. But now it’s time to start looking forward to 2018-19. No more talking about the Stanley Cup. That was last year. This year’s team? We’ve accomplished absolutely nothing. So the partying is all out of our system now. No need to start making statues or murals to commemorate the occasion. We know what we did last year, we don’t need constant reminders of it. Unless you want this to be the last time you ever celebrate winning the Stanley Cup, we need to set our sights on this upcoming season and put last year to rest”.

Unfortunately for the Washington Capitals, apparently they don’t have that type of leadership in the locker room. And unfortunately for the rest of the National Hockey League and the hockey community in general, the Caps’ excessive celebration may have cost the next generation of Stanley Cup Champions severely in the shape of keg stands on the Cup now being outlawed indefinitely.

It’s just a shame, ya know? Think about how many more people are going to end up winning the Stanley Cup. For once I’d love to see the Washington Capitals think about anybody besides themselves. Just once I would have loved to see them act like they’ve been there before even though they literally never have not. Not only did they disrespect the Cup, but they disrespected the future of hockey. They robbed innocent beauties of the right to keg stand the Cup just because they wanted to have a little fun and go viral on social media? Makes me sick to my stomach. The Washington Capitals should be ashamed of themselves and if they had any ounce of integrity in their selfish little bodies, they’ll never win the Cup again because they clearly don’t know how to handle the rewards that come along with it.
