Mollie Tibbetts' Brother Scored Three Touchdowns In First Game Since His Sister's Death
LISBON, Iowa — Scott Tibbetts, the brother of slain Iowa woman Mollie Tibbetts, nearly didn’t play in Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom High’s season opener on Friday. He decided a day before the game that he would take the field. Tibbetts started at quarterback and threw two touchdowns and ran for another in the 35-24 victory against Lisbon. Tibbetts, a senior on the team, also recovered a late onside kick to help seal the victory for the Bears. Mollie Tibbetts’ July 18 abduction and death became a national story. Her body was found on Tuesday. The funeral for the 20-year-old University of Iowa student will be held at 2 p.m. CT Sunday in her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa.
Well that’s pretty awesome in a time where we needed something awesome to happen. Something positive in an otherwise ocean of horror and sadness since Mollie Tibbetts was found dead just a few days ago. Her brother Scott Tibbets goes out and scores three touchdowns for his high school football team and gives the people of Brooklyn, Iowa something to cheer for.
Pretty incredible that he was even up for playing in the game at all. I’m guessing nobody thought he actually would play given the circumstances but then he goes out and does that. Throws for two TDs and runs for another. I honestly can’t even imagine the type of emotions he had as he ran out onto the field. The last month and a half has been as brutal as it gets for a family. Although there’s a good chance the football field is the one place Scott Tibbetts can go to escape the horrors of what happened. Anyway. Very cool and likely some much needed relief for the entire Tibbetts family, however brief.
