AK-47's Kalashnikov Goes After Elon Musk's Tesla

In the 1940s Mikhail Kalashnikov developed the AK-47 assault rifle & it’s become one of the most widely used in conflicts around the globe. Today the company sells three different types – combat, civilian & sport – and now they’re going after Elon Musk… with a clunky, reliable, retro looking rif… electric car.

The only thing stranger than this design being used for their ‘big reveal’ is all the rifles in the background of the showroom. Via The Moscow Times:

Based on the body of a Soviet hatchback Izh, Kalashnikov’s CV-1 electric vehicle’s 90 kilowatt hour battery gives it a range of 350 kilometers. The arms company says the car can accelerate from 0 to 62MPH in 6 seconds.

“We’re talking about competing precisely with Tesla because it’s currently a successful electric vehicle project. We expect to at least keep up with it,” Kalashnikov spokeswoman Sofia Ivanova told the RBC news website on Thursday.

However, RBC reported that Ivanova was unable to name any specific advantages that the CV-1 had over a Tesla.

At the same time they revealed their hatchback, they also unveiled an equally clunky, retro robot. I’m not great with investing but I feel like this is promising & I should give them all my money?

The only advantage I can see to buying one over a Tesla is being able to tell people at the bar you drive a Kalashnikov. Easy ice breaker. Just make sure you don’t have too much to drink & rely on auto pilot to get you home.
