David Wright Began His Journey Back To The Majors Yesterday And I Need Him To Succeed Because Fuck The Wilpons

I’ll admit that the old me would have gotten off to these videos of David’s beautiful swing, his innocent voice, the charm of the boy next door, and a smile that could light up the dark side of the moon in hopes that this was the first step in David Wright getting healthy again and giving the Mets a legit bat back in the lineup again. But the new me realizes that will never be the case. All the Mets trainers and all the Mets docs will never put David together again. And I’m fine with that. I realize that the Mets are about to enter the Dark Times again. There will not be any meaningful games in September for at least another 5 years. That’s just how the cycle of being a Mets fan goes.

The reason this video makes it move is because I want David Wright’s broken body to somehow make it all the way back to the Bigs and take money out of the Wilpons bank account like a younger, less physically able Bernie Madoff. Whenever I think about the Mets, I think about this tweet that came to light after Yo went on the DL with a double heel injury, which is such a preposterous injury when you think about it.

Now I have reached the stage as a Mets fan that I don’t care what the team does as much as I want the Wilpons to suffer. Sure I WANT the Mets to win. But I’m not going to have any delusions of grandeur like I did during the early part of this season when we had the best start in franchise history. If the return of the prodigal son to Flushing means that the Wilpons miss out on pocketing millions of insurance dollars while the continue to act like they own a team in a small market, I’ll sign up for it right now even if Wright is even more of a shell of himself than Jose Reyes’ corpse currently is. Yeah the story about David making it back to the Majors after most baseball fans forgot he was even alive/active would be a great story. But at this point, I just want to Wilpons to lose some cash so one day when my son is my age, there is a chance he won’t have to deal with the shitty owners I have had to deal with my whole life as a Mets fan. David Wright making it back to The Show would just be a nice consolation prize, regardless of if his WAR ends up being 10 or negative 10 million. The Mets are a sunk cost in my life. Hopefully the next generation of Mets fans won’t have to deal with this, even though MLB apparently doesn’t give a fuck about the mismanagement of a New York franchise.
