What To Expect At The PGA Championship Today

Today you will sit in your cube streaming the PGA Championship and here’s what you need to know. It’s going to play easy. For a major, the scores will be low. It’s been hot as hell in St. Louis this summer but also rainy. That combination means the greens are bumpy and the entire course is wet. Drives and approaches are “plugging” aka they’re pretty much finishing up where they land.

That helps high ball hitters: JT, DJ, Day, Rory. Tiger also hits the ball pretty damn high (he can pretty much hit the ball as high or low as he wants obviously). The course also has a ton of dogleg lefts so guys who can work the ball right to left have an advantage (Reed, Rory, Bubba, Phil, Kiz!).

The course will play long. It’s over 7,300 yards and the softness makes Bellerive play true to that number.

Today, some guys will post 6 or 7-under. My guess is 16-under wins it which means we should expect the leaders around 7-under today, 11 tomorrow, 13 or 14 Saturday, and wind up around 16 on Sunday. That’s my guess.

Typically if you string together 9 pars in a major championship that’s pretty solid. Avoid bogeys, stay patient, take advantage when you get hot, and get yourself in contention with something under par.

Not this week. Anything not under par is losing ground to the field — guys will be aggressive.

Should see tons of birdies and that’s okay. My friend USGA beat these guys up pretty good – now we get to see them show off a bit.

It’s a major. It’s pressure. Let’s have some fun.
