NJ- A popular eatery was deemed safe to remain open on Sunday after a car crashed into one of the business’s entrances, authorities said. The car struck The Original Mulligan’s Restaurant & Grill on Squankum Road in Farmingdale. The fire department arrived about 3 p.m. to find the vehicle wedged into an entrance vestibule, according to Squankum Fire Company No. 1. No injuries were reported. The fire department said on Facebook that the pub remained open as the crash “was only (in) one of their entrance vestibules.” The building department “deemed the rest of the building safe,” the fire department said.

This is really all you ask for out of your neighborhood bar. Never close. They should never be closed under any circumstances. It’s the one place in town where people can go, get a few drinks, listen to some music, let their hair down and forget about their problems for awhile. It’s a therapeutic establishment and, without it, the very fabric of society begins to split at the seams. There’s no therapy like a cold beer so any attempt to close a neighborhood bar should come as affront to the ideals and values we hold deepest. Come rain, sleet, snow or a Toyota Camry flying through the wall, the neighborhood bar shouldn’t close. It’s an unwritten oath that every bar takes the day it opens it’s doors.

Well the folks at The Original Mulligan’s Restaurant & Grill took clearly take that oath very seriously cause they didn’t close even after a car plowed into the side of their building. You think a little white sedan is gonna stop the OG Mulligans from slinging drinks to the townspeople? Think again my friend.

This is the type of resilience I’m talking about

The fire department said on Facebook that the pub remained open as the crash “was only (in) one of their entrance vestibules.” The building department “deemed the rest of the building safe,” the fire department said.

Basically saying, “It only took out one of our entrances! We got plenty more! Come in through the back door if you have to! WE’RE NOT CLOSING!” Unrelated but sorta related, there’s a Donutland in Cedar Rapids that I’d go to all the time with my grandpa as a kid and one time a van drove directly through the front of the Donutland. They were closed for weeks and I was pissed caused it was always the highlight of my week. What I’m trying to say is that clearly Donutlands don’t take the same unwritten oath that neighborhood bars do and that’s a shame.
