The Eagles Have Extended Doug Pederson And GM Howie Roseman Through 2022

Philly – The Philadelphia Eagles have signed head coach Doug Pederson and executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman to contract extensions. Both Pederson and Roseman are now under contract through the 2022 season. “We are thrilled to solidify continuity in our organization’s leadership with the extensions of Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman, whose collaborative partnership helped deliver our city its first Super Bowl Championship,” said Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. “Doug and Howie are committed to the success of our franchise by ensuring that we remain competitive, both in the short and long term. That unified vision for the future of our team is what gives us the best chance to win moving forward.” Together, Pederson and Roseman played vital roles in the Eagles’ historic 2017 campaign, which resulted in the first Super Bowl championship in team history. Philadelphia finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, which tied a franchise mark, captured the NFC East crown and a No. 1 seed in the playoffs, and defeated New England, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII.

I mean, can you really disagree with the move? The Eagles have won their first Super Bowl in franchise history and their first championship since 1960. I wouldn’t have been shocked if they got lifetime contracts. And ya gotta give credit where credit is due, both extensions are well deserved. It’s no secret I was the conductor of the Doug and Howie hate train to hell, and I was wrong. So wrong. The fact I was so, so off about something I follow so closely makes me question my own existence. What can I possibly be right about? Don’t answer that.

Nevertheless, Doug Pederson’s coaching ability can’t really be questioned. The man won the Super Bowl with a depleted roster, including his MVP caliber QB (along with his future HOF left tackle, starting middle linebacker, best special teams player, and playmaking veteran RB/punt returner). Not to mention every single player and coach would run through all the walls for the man. Doug deserves everything he can get.

Howie was essentially in charge of this epic, and it is EPIC, turnaround. There’s nobody denying that fact. He was the leader behind bringing our Lord and Savior Ginger Jesus to Philly. Nevermind the outrageous circumstances, Howie brought in Doug Pederson, who at the time NOBODY thought was going to be an average NFL head coach, let alone one of the league’s best. Howie has indeed improved immensely since being locked in a Novacare Complex for a season. And for that, Howard, we thank you. It took him 7+ years on the job and getting exiled to a closet for a year to get it right, but dammit, he got it right. Congratulations on your success, Howard. You smell terrific.

Great for both of them. Better for Philly. The new norm, baby. Let’s get used to it.

PS – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Roseman deserves (and gets) the credit as GM, but it’s quite the coincidence that Howie’s hits and misses have become surefire heat seeking missiles connecting with EVERY target and move since Joe Douglas was brought onto the Eagles. Joe Douglas better have been given a BIG raise as well as locked in a cage at the Novacare Complex only allowed out to scout, make draft picks, and occasionally graze. The day we lose Douglas will be a dark day indeed. And it will happen. We’re just lucky we get him for at least one more year.
