I'm A Huge Tour de France Guy Now After Learning You're Allowed To Drink Champagne During The Race

Geraint Thomas won the Tour de France yesterday. Supposedly the big story here is that he became the first Welsh rider to ever win the Tour. But the real story here is that apparently you’re allowed to drink champagne during the race. Which is, as the kids these days say, pretty bad ass. I guess Thomas already had the win locked up before yesterday’s final stage of the race so he was able to be in cruise control for the day. And with that being the case, he and the boys didn’t want to wait to cross the finish line and decided to get the party started a little early.

Drinking and driving. Ya gotta love it. I just hope Geraint Thomas didn’t end up catching a BUI here.

Now I don’t want the Tour de France enough to know if this is anything new or not. I don’t know if this happens every year or if this is just a Geraint Thomas thing. But that’s the dream. Any time you can add alcoholic bevies to a professional sporting event, mid event? Count me in. I mean don’t get me wrong. Champagne sucks and as far as the alcoholic bevies go, it’s probably the worst option. Definitely would have been cooler if these dudes shotgunned a few beers instead during that final stage. Could have gone with some High Life. It’s the champagne of beers. But regardless, it’s a start. And until I start seeing dudes pop bottles in the middle of the Super Bowl or start sluggin’ Molsons in the 3rd period of game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Tour de France is setting the standard. Buncha beauts.
