Mitch Marner Has Custom Fortnite Skates Made

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner showed off his new custom Fornite skates this past week at his Marner Assist Fund charity event which is described as a “two-day sporting event includes a Draft Night Party, team competition, and a showcase of all the participating NHLers’ skills.” To help raise money for children in need.

Marner took the ice in his new custom Fornite skates made by TRUE and even took the time to describe them and how they came to be.

Look, I have never played Fornite. I have never even been in the same room as someone playing Fortnite. I think it’s crazy how big this game has gotten and how attached people are to it. But I’m not knocking those who play. I almost wish I played. It would give me something to actually care about and do with my days.

You don’t need to play Fortnite to like these skates though. Just the idea of players starting to customize their skates more and more is something I love. We have seen Ovechkin do it before with some crazy designs on his skates, so why don’t more players do it?

Well for one, the NHL doesn’t allow it. When Ovechkin tried to play in NHL action with his custom skates the NHL said no. Ovechkin wanted too, but the NHL wouldn’t allow it. Why you ask? Because the NHL and Gary Bettman hate when people talk about the NHL.

Ovechkin had the chance to wear custom skates in competitive play before, at the Olympics in 2014. And I bet we would of seen a lot more players wear custom skates at the Olympics this past year, had the NHL not pulled their players out.

People do not talk about the NHL enough. So why not give them a reason to? Mitch Marners skates were awesome, Alexander Ovechkin’s skates were awesome, why can’t Gary Bettman be awesome and allow the players just a tiny bit of freedom to express themselves and help brand themselves and grow the game.
