Clint Capela Finally Re-Signs With The Houston Rockets As The Last Big Name In Free Agency Is Off The Board

Well, we finally have the last big name in free agency off the books. It was never a doubt that Capela would end up back in Houston, but rather what would he re-sign for. Some wondered if he’d take a one-year deal and enter next year as an unrestricted free agent or if he would get extended for more. If you’re a Rockets fan you have to be thrilled.

Many thought Capela would get a max deal from someone, forcing the Rockets to match. Capela really broke out this year and has been a wonderful story to watch as he made his way through the G League and eventually a starter with the Rockets. He fits the Rockets current system perfectly to as he’s a rim protector defensively, sets screens and dives to the rim offensively. He lets the four guys around him stay spread on the floor and does his job inside.

All in all this is just a big time win for the Rockets and GM Daryl Morey. In an offeason where they lost Trevor Ariza and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, getting Capela on a team friendly deal lets them walk away this offseason with a positive feeling.

At just 24 years old he’s coming off a year where he played just about 28 minutes per game and averaged just a shade under 14/11 with 2 blocks per game. Now with all the big names off of free agency there still are the likes of Rodney Hood, Jamal Crawford and Greg Monroe out there to be added to a roster. For one of the teams that can compete with the Warriors – and proved that in the Western Conference Finals – this is a big time move.
