Source - Colombian narcotics officer Sombra — a decorated German Shepherd — is on the run after one of the most powerful drug cartels put a $70k bounty on her furry head.

According to reports, the Urabeños drug gang, Colombia’s most feared criminal organization, put the hit on Sombra after the 6-year-old pooch recently sniffed out nearly 10 TONS of cocaine in 2 separate busts.

Sombra (Shadow in English) had been working Colombia’s port cities, but officials have moved her beat to the Bogota airport because it’s outside the Urabeños turf.

The gang is known for taking out hits on its enemies, but usually in the hundreds of dollars. In (Sombre’s) her 6 years, she’s helped bust 245 suspects!

You know what the best part about being a dog would be? Having no idea what the fuck is going on around you. Sombra doesn’t know why she left the port to go to Bogota, all she knows is that her human is taking her on a fun new adventure. New sights, new sounds, new SMELLS. She’s going to have the time of her life. Sure, she may have withdrawals from the lack of cocaine but she’ll sniff some out. It’s Columbia.

Having said that, the cartels should be ashamed of themselves. I’m not mad that they put a hit on a dog, I’m just disappointed. A) because killing a dog is one of the most awful things a human can do and B) because I was a fan of the cartel, at least on TV, and now I have to hate them. Now every time I turn on Nat Geo and see Drugs Inc. or Locked Up Abroad all I’m going to think about is Sombra and whether or not she got shot in the head for doing her job. Those TV shows are ruined for me. It’d be one thing if she was repeatedly busting specific people for small amounts of cocaine but she wasn’t. She came across an unavoidable ten TONS blow, sat down and waited for her toy. That’s over $300 MILLION worth.

Shame on you, cartel. How about instead of putting a hit on Sombra, you let her do her job and you do a better job of doing yours? Split up the bricks, put them in bananas, do something. Hopefully she gets to live out the rest of her years in peace. Who knows maybe Gus Kenworthy will adopt her? Regardless, best of luck Sombra and her owner. They’re going to need it.
