Space Update - Mars Is About To Look Awesome For The Next Six Weeks, And We'll Be There Soon

Mars

Business Insider — Mars will look brighter in the night sky over the next six weeks than it has appeared in 15 years.

That’s because the red planet will be at its closest point to Earth since 2003 throughout June and July, as our planet passes between Mars and the sun.

On July 31, when Mars will be at its brightest, it’ll be 35.8 million miles away from Earth, according to The Weather Channel.

Mars will be easily visible to the naked eye throughout July, outshining all but the brightest stars as it gets to its closest point.

Oh hell yeah. I don’t know why space is so sweet but it just is. Space is awesome. Everything about it is cool. When two objects pass by each other on earth it’s whatever. Not a big deal. Go hold a marble in front of another marble so you can’t see the furthest away marble and nobody cares. But then the moon floats in front of the sun for a few minutes and holy fuck. The whole world stops.

President Trump Views The Eclipse From The White House

We love that shit. In the UK they’re actually getting a crazy, blood red, total lunar eclipse on Friday night while all we get is a closer Mars but we’ll take it. The NYC air doesn’t allow us to see higher than about 20 stories but I’m happy for everyone else’s night skies to be brightened by the magnificent beauty of the red planet.

PS — Hey Mars, you got a hole bro.

PPS — And we’ll see you soon.
