The Cleveland Indians Are Sniffing Around Adam Jones

Today in “Which Veteran Orioles Player Is Going To Be Traded Soon” we have outfielder, Adam Jones. Jones is being looked at by the Indians according to Jon Morosi. Cleveland is looking for a right handed bat to slide into their outfield, Jones fits that bill.

At 32, he can’t cover the ground he used to and isn’t going to win a Gold Glove again, but he can still be a serviceable outfielder. I’m not sure I’d have him play center, but if he were to accept this trade (he has 10 and 5), I’m not sure that he would accept a corner outfield spot.

Even though he hasn’t hit a home run since June 2nd, he can still contribute at the plate. This season he’s batting .275, has 10 homers, 33 driven in, an OBP of .300, and is slugging .422. He can be a good right handed bat for a team in the hunt. Add in his veteran leadership and resume, and he can be a good piece for someone, in this instance, it would be Cleveland.

This would be a tough trade for the O’s, just because of what Jones means to the city and community. He has done more charity work in the city than any athlete in recent history, always has a smile on his face, is absolutely LOVED by the city of Baltimore, and he really deserves better than what is happening with the Orioles now.

I want to see Jones go out a winner, I want to see him have success late in his career, and heading into the last few months of his deal with the Orioles, it’s clear the success won’t be in Baltimore. He has said in a few interviews that the Orioles haven’t approached him about any type of contract extension, and that it isn’t up to him if he stays here. Jones said he wants to stay, but that is the Warehouse’s call.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jones packaged with some other O’s players as well to try and get a bigger package back. Maybe a Brad Brach or Zach Britton. Regardless of where he goes, Jones will be always be a fan favorite in Baltimore. Now we keep our ears open and keep an eye on all the baseball writers twitter accounts.
