Wake Up With Ken Griffey Jr Mondays - The Kid Robs Albert Belle Of A Home Run

Happy KGJM, friends. This week we’ve got Griffey Jr going high above the wall to take a home run away from maybe the angriest man to ever step foot on this planet, Albert Belle. Albert Belle was pissed off at the sun, he was pissed off at the wind, he was pissed off at everyone, for no good reason. I remember being young and at an Orioles game and hearing the entire crowd boo him, so obviously I joined in. This is when he was a member of the Orioles…

So Belle lays into one and sends it to center field, Griffey gets back there with plenty of time to judge where and how to jump. He gets to the track, checks the wall, stays crouched and leaps at the base of the wall, holds on for just a second, and brings the home run back. I mean he played it absolutely perfect, and made it look gorgeous. The way he approached it was just awesome, like a lion stalking it’s prey. He knew he had that ball before he got to the warning track.

Obviously he was known for the bat, the sweet swing, the offensive game. But the defense was always there with Griffey. If I could only watch 1 guy make catches at or above the wall, it’s Griffey (Mike Trout is 2nd and there isn’t really anyone else). There is a good chance Albert Belle tried to kill Griffey after this catch too.
